AI assistants hold four of the US App Store's top 10 spots

On 8 October 2026 four of the ten highest-ranked free iPhone apps in the US were AI assistants: Muse from Meta at #1, ChatGPT at #3, Claude by Anthropic at #8 and Google Gemini at #9. Two of them stayed in the top 10 on every one of the last 30 days. The other two dropped out of it on some days.

Muse and ChatGPT were in the top 10 every day for 30 days

Muse from Meta was in the top 10 on each of the last 30 days and #1 on 21 of them, most recently on 8 October. ChatGPT was also in the top 10 on all 30 days. It was #1 on the first ten, from 9 to 18 September, and has not been #1 since. On 8 October it was #3, one place lower than a week earlier. Gemini and Claude at the bottom of the top 10

Google Gemini was in the top 10 on 28 of the last 30 days. Its best position in that time was #4, reached on three days, most recently 17 September. On 8 October it was #9, down two places in a week.

Claude was in the top 10 on 16 of the last 30 days. On 8 October it was #8, up one place and one place above Gemini. Its best position in the last 30 days was #7, reached on two days, most recently 17 September, and in the last 90 days #5, on 28 August. Because Claude was in the top 10 on only 16 of the 30 days, the four assistants shared the top 10 on at most 16 days.

Grok added almost as many ratings as Gemini

ChatGPT added more US ratings in the week to 8 October than the other four apps in the table together. Grok AI, at #34, added 26,353, almost exactly as many as Gemini at #9 (26,685). Claude, one place above Gemini, added 4,276.

Below the top 10: Grok, Copilot and Meta AI

Grok was #34 on 8 October, the same as a week earlier, and inside the top 50 on 29 of the last 30 days. Its best position in the last 90 days was #24, on 22 July. Meta AI was #124, down 25 places in a week, with a 90-day best of #20 on 11 July.

Microsoft Copilot is followed here in the Top Free Productivity chart rather than the overall one. On 8 October it was #6 there, up two places in a week and its best position in the last 90 days.

Outside the US

On 8 October each of the other three assistants was #1 in the Top Free Apps chart of another country: ChatGPT in Mexico, Gemini in Spain and Claude in France. In the United Kingdom ChatGPT was #4, Claude #8 and Gemini #17. Copilot was #2 in the Top Free Productivity chart in the Netherlands and #4 in the United Kingdom.

In China the top of the chart looks different. Doubao, a Chinese AI assistant, was #4 in the Chinese Top Free Apps chart on 8 October and in its top 10 on each of the last 30 days.
